Oil and Drugs do Mix
What do oil and drugs have in common? They’re both derived from the same raw material. Oil is the raw ingredient in most pharmaceutical drugs. From oil, chemists manufacture new-to-nature molecules – compounds never known before the last 150 years. The world existed for millions of years, during which time animals and humans evolved, learning to live among natural compounds. Then suddenly, in the 1880s, the first synthetic chemical was manufactured. Since then thousands more have been produced. Approximately 100,000 of these oil-derived chemicals now exist, many in the form of prescription and over-the-counter medications. Most have never been thoroughly tested for safety.
